Trade permits in firearms

The Firearms Administration of the National Police Board grants trade permits in firearms, as well as authorising commercial import, export, transit and transfer from and to Finland of firearms. In addition, it arranges at least two examinations every year for persons intending to become firearms officers employed by firearms dealers.

You can apply for the permit using a free-form application addressed to the Firearms Administration of the National Police Board.

The application must be signed by the applicant. If the applicant is a private (natural) person, the application must be signed by the actual applicant. If the applicant is a corporation (a juristic person such as a partnership, a limited partnership, a limited company or an association), the application must be signed by a person / persons with a signing authority. If persons with a signing authority have not yet been entered in the Trade Register/Register of Association, authorisation to sign must be proved with an extract from the minutes of the general meeting of the corporation.

To whom and on what terms

A trade permit in firearms can be granted to a person who is authorised to carry out a trade and who, under Section 26 of the Firearms Act, reports a firearms officer and who, with regard to his/her financial circumstances, is sufficiently capable of carrying out the trade referred to in the Firearms Act.


Period of validity

The trade permit in firearms is valid for an indefinite term unless a time period has been specified for a special reason.
