Tow away of vehicles left on the side of the road

The Lapland ELY Centre is nationally responsible for identifying the owners of the vehicles left on the road and for making decisions on towing and reimbursement.

The ELY Centre can have a vehicle towed from the road, if:

  • The vehicle has not been removed from an accident site within two days of the traffic accident;
  • The vehicle has been parked on the road against the rules;
  • The parked v ...

Do the following

You can report a vehicle left on the highway by telephoning the Road User Line. Give information about the location of the vehicle (municipality, address, road number or name) and the registration or other identification of the vehicle.

The vehicle can be retrieved from the storage within 30 days the service of the decision.

When retrieving the vehicle, you must present a receipt of the paid tow-away fee and personal identification.

If the owner does not retrieve the towed vehicle within 30 days the service of the decision, the vehicle will become property of the municipality on whose area it was found.
