Temporary protection closure of a land area

  • Service
  • Nationwide except the Åland Islands
  • Public service

A land owner can propose a site for protection under the METSO Programme for conservation purposes. The ELY Centre may also propose closure, for example, to protect a breeding site of the Siberian flying squirrel.

If the site is deemed suitable for protection, an agreement is concluded and appended to the cadastre.

Temporary protection closure orders help promote biodiversity. The land owner will be compensated for any economic losses.
