Supervision of the safeguarding of the employer's direct supplementary pension scheme

In a direct supplementary pension scheme, the employer is responsible for the payment and administration of the supplementary pension promised to the employee. The employer is obliged to safeguard half of the direct supplementary pension, in case of bankruptcy and corporate restructuring.

To whom and on what terms

The right of information applies only to supplementary pension schemes in which the employer is directly responsible for the payment of the supplementary pension benefit. In addition, the supplementary pension must be paid only after the employee's personal retirement age.

The employee may submit an enforcement request to the Division of Occupational Safety and Health of the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southwestern Finland if they do not receive information on the safeguarding of their supplementary pension, within four months after the end of the employer's financial year. The enforcement request can also be made if the employee suspects, after receiving the report, that the employer has not safeguarded the supplementary pension scheme as required by law.
