Suomenlinna outdoor area use permit

  • Service

  • Public service

The land and water areas of Suomenlinna belong to the Finnish State and are administered by the Governing Body of Suomenlinna, which reports to the Ministry of Education and Culture. The fortress, under UNESCO’s protection, and its sensitive nature require stricter event-related restrictions than in other public urban areas. Events organised in Suomenlinna must honour the World Heritage value of the fortress and may not disturb the peace of residents and visitors or harm the environment on the islands.

You may not organise events or put up canopies or structures in Suomenlinna without the landowner’s permission. The permit is always needed when the event involves activities that require reserving areas, furnishing, restricting access to certain areas, putting up structures, posting brochures or other materials or cause noise or other disturbance.
