Background information

After the patient has ended their cycle of substance abuse, they may receive substance abuse rehabilitation. The purpose of the rehabilitation is to support the patient’s sobriety, life management skills, and functional capacity. The rehabilitation can be arranged on an outpatient or 24-hour basis as medical and social rehabilitation. If necessary, the patient may also receive vocational rehabilitation as part of their substance abuse rehabilitation.

Substance abuse rehabilitation is organised by various service providers. Rehabilitation participants may be entitled to a rehabilitation allowance paid by Kela if they are 16 to 67 years old and if the rehabilitation can promote their return or access to work.
