The specialties of internal medicine are focused on the examination, diagnostics and treatment of endocrinological, gastroenterological, hematological, infectious, cardiological, nephrological, and rheumatological diseases.

  • Endocrinology is a specialty in which disorders of glands secreting hormones are examined and treated.
  • Gastroenterology is a specialty focused on gastrointestinal diseases and their treatment.
  • Hematology refers to a specialty that studies and treats diseases of the blood.
  • In the specialty of infectious diseases, illnesses caused by microbes such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites are examined and treated.
  • Cardiology is a specialty that provides specialist medical care services in the field of heart disease to municipalities in the Helsinki University Hospital area and a specialized level of medical care for the entire population in the Uusimaa region.
  • Nephrology is a specialty with main tasks including the diagnosis and treatment of renal diseases and the coordination of the treatment of chronic renal disease in the Uusimaa region.
  • Rheumatology is a specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal, connective tissue and related soft-tissue illnesses, pains and disorders.
  • Internal medicine (General Internal Medicine 10Y) is a specialty, which is a general expert in the differentiated specialties (7 specialties) and provides consultation assistance in primary health care throughout the Uusimaa region in the examination and treatment of internal medicine diseases. In addition, the treatment and monitoring of certain rare internal medicine diseases have been concentrated at Meilahti Hospital

The Internal Medicine line (10Y) has activities in the Meilahti, Haartman, Jorvi, Malmi and Peijas hospitals. Treatment at our unit requires a physician’s referral.
