- Public service
The purpose is to support and promote the active and independent coping of a disabled person and to mitigate the limitations or obstacles caused by the disability.
The social worker is a specialist on all support measures in the Disability Services Act and he or she works together with, for example, home care service, hospitals and the various organisations for the disabled
The social worker can be contacted, if the disability or illness causes long-term difficulties with, for example, housing, moving or living at home. Appointments booked by phone.
The office secretaries of the services for the disabled manage the execution of decisions concerning disability services, such as the payment of bills or transport service card matters. The office secretaries also offer advice in all matters related to the transport service. They also provide the application forms for disability services and help towards filling them in.
To whom and on what terms
The need for disability services is assessed, in cooperation with the customer and specialists from different fields. The necessary measures are written down into the service plan.
The service is only for citizens of Helsinki.
The service is free of charge.
Persons with disabilities and their family are offered guidance and counselling on such issues as health care and social welfare services, housing, studying, work and personal finance. The advisers explain what services are available, how they can be accessed and what the preconditions for using them are. If necessary, counselling on applying for and coordinating different financial support forms is available. The advisers direct clients to all service providers.
Persons with disabilities and their family can get counselling for example on telephone or by visiting a service point. The advisers do not make decisions related to the services.
