Skin change examination

  • Service
  • Helsinki
  • Public service

Many of us have different kinds of harmless moles, discoloured patches and spots on our skin. Moles that do not pose a health hazard are generally symmetrical in shape, with an even tone and clearly defined border. If you are concerned about a mole or other change to your skin, you can ask a doctor to examine it.

During your appointment, a doctor can remove any suspicious small moles during a check-up, or take a biopsy from larger moles for further examination. Please note that public health stations only remove moles on medical grounds, not for cosmetic purposes.

Book an appointment for an examination of your moles and skin changes by sending a photo of your mole or moles via the Maisa system. A doctor will assess the mole and reply to your message within three days.

Instructions for sending a photo via Maisa:

  1. Take as good a photo of the mole as possible with your mobile phone camera, for example. Measure the size of the mole or skin change.

  1. Log in to Maisa and select ‘Messages’ in the top menu. Select ‘Ask a Question’ > ‘Ask About Care or Services’.

  1. Select your health station team and then ‘Non-urgent question about care or services’ as the subject. In your message, describe where the mole or skin change is located and what size it is. Attach the photo or photos you have taken to the message.
