The Security Sector Supervision unit issues security sector business licences and approves the licence holders' persons in charge, managers and deputies, temporary managers, as well as persons providing training in the use of force and use of firearms, and training in security stewarding. Police departments approve the security inspectors operating in their jurisdiction. A security sector business licence entitles its holder to engage in the licensed business anywhere in Finland and on Finnish vessels.
The private security sector is often subdivided into private security companies, security stewards, persons conducting security checks or security officers, business security, security enforcement, security screening and safety protection activities. The sector also includes many other services and products, such as various security expert and training services as well as services providing security technology and systems.
Private security services refers to the performance of guard duties on the basis of client contracts for the purpose of earning income.
Security steward services refers to appointing security stewards to their duty areas and the provision of security stewards.
Security services refers to managing security on the basis of client contracts for the purpose of earning income.
A holder of a security sector business licence engaged in private security services, security stewardships or other security services must employ a person approved as the manager.

To whom and on what terms
Any duly licensed natural person (business name) or legal entity (limited liability company, partnership, limited partnership, etc.) that has been entered in the trade register, has a business ID and has been granted a security sector business licence may provide private security services.
Security steward tasks carried out for the purpose of earning income may be performed by a natural or legal person who has been granted a security sector business licence.
Security services tasks carried out for the purpose of earning income may be performed by a natural or legal person who has been granted a security sector business licence.
A fee is charged for the service.
The fee is based on a decree of the Ministry of the Interior on the payment for police services. The decree is periodically updated.
Period of validity
Security sector business licences are valid until further notice.
