The securing of child support is a service intended for families with children who have divorced, who are in the process of divorcing or who live apart. The parents of children under placement also go to the office of the child welfare officer to manage the matters related to child support agreements. A young person aged 18 or over can be a client of a child welfare officer in matters concerning education allowance.
Child support is governed by the Act on Child Maintenance 704/1975.
