Reservation of an area as a nature reserve

The land owner can propose an area (an estate or a parcel thereof) to be protected as a part of the METSO Programme or to promote voluntary mire conservation. Alternatively, the establishment of a nature reserve can begin on the initiative of the ELY Centre for the implementation of a nature conservation programme or land use.

Detailed information, instructions and forms are provided in the website metsonpolku.fi. The online service of METSO forest conservation programme is the preferred communication method. The average processing time is 6 to 12 months.

In order to use the service, you will need the cadastre ID of the site in question. The conditions and the criteria relating to the establishment of a nature reserve can be found in the Metsonpolku online service and the website of the Ministry of the Environment.
