Background information

Mental health rehabilitees have the right to receive support for living independently when necessary. Primarily, the services are provided to the rehabilitee in their own home. A social advisor, housing counsellor or other support person provides assistance in finding housing, settling in and organising everyday chores. The support can be short or long-term in nature. Its purpose is to promote the resident’s rehabilitation, autonomy and functional capacity.

Housing services are organised for mental health rehabilitees who require suitable housing as well as care and attention. In service housing with 24-hour assistance, care and attention are provided around the clock.

Mental health rehabilitees can also be supported by providing them with institutional care for a period of time. Long-term institutional care and attention can be provided if they are essential for the rehabilitee’s health or safety.
