Background information

Pupils in compulsory education age may apply for a place in weighted curriculum education. The kinds and extent of weighted curriculum education depend on how comprehensive schools emphasise certain subjects in their instruction following decisions made by the municipality or other education provider.Weighted curriculum education may include languages, natural sciences, music, visual arts or physical education.

Pupils may apply for a place in weighted curriculum education that starts either in grade 3 or grade 7 of basic education. Weighted language studies can already start in grade 1. Weighted curriculum education extends the pupil’s school week by 1 to 2 hours.
