Inspection of the deactivation of firearms or firearm parts.

A firearm or a firearm part can be permanently deactivated or rendered permanently unfit for use. Once this has been done, no permit is required for possessing the firearm in question.

Do the following

A deactivated firearm or firearm part and the related proof or permit for a licence must be presented to the police within 30 days of the date of move or import. The police will then inspect that the deactivation has been completed appropriately. Deactivated firearms are inspected by the Firearms Administration of the National Police Board.

Deactivated firearms or firearm parts imported or moved from another EU country must also satisfy the deactivation requirements laid down in the current Regulation in force, and be presented to the police for inspection within 30 days of the date of move or import.

To whom and on what terms

A firearm or a firearm part is deemed to have been deactivated if it has been rendered permanently unfit for use in accordance with the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU).

Firearms placed on the market that have been deactivated prior to the date of application of the Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) on 8 April 2016 must also satisfy the same requirements.


Deadline

Deactivated firearms or firearm parts must be presented to the police within 30 days of their deactivation.
