HUS Medical Imaging Center

HUS Medical Imaging Center conducts X-ray examinations as well as neurophysiological, physiological, and isotope studies. All examinations require a physician’s referral to HUS Medical Imaging Center. Basic X-ray examinations of the bones and lungs and teeth are carried out without an appointment. You are free to choose which HUS Medical Imaging Center X-ray unit visit for basic X-ray examinations. Other examinations are conducted by appointment. The unit treating you will book an appointment for the examination and report it by letter or advise you to book an appointment yourself. The physician treating you will inform you of the results of the examination.

A referral from a physician is always needed in public health care. Private service providers offer imaging services also without a referral.

Background information

Imaging can be used for examination of illnesses and follow-up of treatment. Various imaging techniques are used to create images of an organ or its components. Imaging includes X-rays and computed tomography, MRI and ultrasound examinations, thermal imaging and isotope analyses. Bodily functions, including sleep, alertness or electrical activity in the brain, may also be imaged.

Imaging is performed by hospitals, health centres and private service providers. Some images may also be taken at home.
