Home nursing is nursing and rehabilitation prescribed by doctors and provided at the patients' homes. Provision of home nursing services requires a referral from a health station, hospital or private doctor. The nursing services provided are based on service and care plans prepared with patients and their families. Services can be provided 24 hours including weekends.

To whom and on what terms

The service is only for citizens of Helsinki.

Background information

Home nursing is intended for patients who, because of their illness or reduced functional capacity, cannot use other outpatient health care and medical care services. Home nursing is a multi-professional service based on a plan. For example, home nursing staff can look after pharmaceutical care, pain relief or wound care, or support end-of-life care provided at home.

The supplies required for treating chronic illnesses that are used in home nursing in accordance with the care plan are included in the provision of the care.
