Health stations

  • Service
  • Vantaa
  • Public service

Health stations provide primary health care services. They are residents’ primary places of treatment; when required, health centers can refer patients to further tests and treatment.

Health centers care for patients in teams. Provided that certain criteria are met, patients are designated a personal doctor. Health centers also provide services by nurses and experts by experience specialized in physiotherapy, mental-health and substance-abuse work. You do not need a referral to low-threshold mental-health and substance-abuse services, whereas a doctor shall first assess your need for a depression nurse specialist.

To whom and on what terms

The service is only for citizens of Vantaa.

Background information

Nurses give health advice, wound care and vaccinations and remove stitches, etc. If necessary, the nurse can refer the patient to a doctor.

Non-urgent treatment must be provided within a set period. During business hours, patients must be able to contact a health centre immediately by telephone or visiting the centre. Calls are returned without delay, usually on the same day.

The need for treatment may be initially assessed over the telephone, but the patient must be assessed within three days from the contact. The necessary treatment must be organised within a reasonable delay, within 3 months.
