The Prison Hospital is a national somatic hospital led by general practitioners providing care to prisoners in Hämeenlinna. The activities include multidisciplinary treatment and rehabilitation of somatic illnesses. The activities of the women’s ward include moreover substance abuse psychiatry for pregnant females. There is also a day hospital and post-clinical activities available for female patients.

The Prison Hospital also includes an opportunity to outpatient gastroscopy examinations and consultation with medical specialists.

In addition to the chief physician, the Prison Hospital’s multi professional working group includes two heads of department, a psychologist, social worker, chief nursing officer, head nurse, nurses, a physical therapist, occupational therapist, laboratory nurse, and assisting personnel.

To whom and on what terms

The services are intended for prisoners and prisoners on remand.

Those serving a community sanction offence belong to the scope of municipal health services.
