To whom and on what terms

TUVA education may be suited to you if

you are in compulsory education age and you need preparatory training before moving to vocational education and training or general upper secondary education
you want to improve your Finnish or Swedish skills before moving to education leading to upper secondary qualification
an adult but have not yet taken any upper secondary qualification.

You can apply for TUVA education if you have completed basic education or similar education.

You can apply for preparatory training for general upper secondary education, if

- you have completed comprehensive school (peruskoulu) or a similar syllabus in Finland or abroad or have an equal amount of knowledge and skills

- your language skills are not yet sufficient to study in Finnish or Swedish at general upper secondary school

- your have general upper secondary school as your primary educational goal

- you have not received an upper secondary school qualification (toisen asteen tutkinto) or taken the Matriculation Examination (ylioppilastutkinto) in Finland and do not have a similar qualification from another country.

Background information

TUVA education lasts for a maximum of one year. The extent of the education is 38 weeks. You can apply for TUVA education in the spring joint application process or in continuous admission throughout the year. You can also take part in the preparatory education for shorter periods.

TUVA education

• makes you better prepared to apply for general upper secondary education and education leading to vocational qualification

• gives you a clear plan for studies and working life

• makes you better prepared to complete general upper secondary education, and take the matriculation examination or vocational qualification.

As a student taking part in TUVA education, you are entitled to student welfare services, guidance counselling and special support.
