Students studying in specialised schools can leave out some national obligatory courses and instead choose courses/studies from the school's field of specialisation. The students are selected according to specific admission criteria found from the each school's website. The specialised school's special lines are applied to separately from other studies in the school.

Admission to general upper secondary education with a special educational mission takes place in the joint application based on one's grade point average of the theoretical subjects in the basic education certificate or the weighted grade point average and an entrance exam as well as possible points earned from additional evidence.
