A childminder is an employee for the municipality who takes care of children in their own home. The amount of children under school age and per group is four.
Family day care is education for the early childhood period where emphasis is on non-urgency and playfulness.
Family day care is a form of day care that happens in the childminders home. A childminder is a person who has all the needed basics, vocational qualification or some other form of professional qualification in the field of education. In one group there can be four under school aged children needing full day care, including the under school aged children of the childminder. A child who is in pre-school or in basic school can be placed in the mentioned group.
The working hours for a childminder during family day care is based around taking care of the children. Working hours are mainly 8-9 hours a day. The exact hours will be specified before the day care begins. Day care payments are determined the same way as in kindergarten care. Applying for family day care is done filling an early childhood education application.

It also works as a professional manual for childminders about family day care. The early childhood education plan lets caretakers know what family day care is and how it operates within Vantaa. A backup care will be assigned in case of an absence by the childminder. The backup care will primarily take place in a backup day care home, group family day care or in kindergarten.
The supervisor of the family day care is the kindergarten manager.

A family day-carer may care for at most four children under school age in full time and for one child of pre-primary or basic education age part time. The carer’s own under school age children are included in this number. An early childhood education plan is drawn up for each child in family day care.
