Exceptional permit for occasional work
- Permit or other obligation
- Public service
According to the standing orders of the Working Hours Act, regular working hours can be no more than eight hours a day and 40 hours a week. Weekly regular working hours may also be arranged for an average of 40 hours over a maximum period of 52 weeks. Exceptional daily working hours can be agreed on in a national collective agreement.
If the quality of the work is such that it is only performed occasionally during the daily working hours that the employee is available for work, the occupational safety and health authority can authorise exceptions from the provisions on regular working hours and daily rest periods.
Do the following
Apply for the exceptional permit for occasional work in writing from the Occupational Safety and Health Division of the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southwest Finland. You can use the Exceptional permit for occasional work form for the permit application. Attach the employee representative’s statement to the application.
To whom and on what terms
A precondition for a decision on the matter is that the shop steward or elected representative is reserved an opportunity to be heard on the application. If no such employee representative is present at the workplace, the opportunity to be heard is given to the occupational safety and health representative. If there is no employee representative at the workplace, the opportunity to be heard must be reserved separately for each employee that the application concerns.
The service is free of charge.

The permit is granted for a maximum period of two years.
