The Epidemiologic operations unit treats epidemics of infectious diseases within the City of Helsinki and provides information and guidance related to infectious diseases. Health stations can instruct patients to contact the Epidemiologic operations unit when necessary.
The Epidemiologic operations unit monitors infectious diseases in Helsinki and is responsible for municipal oversight and prevention readiness against generally hazardous and notifiable diseases in cooperation with the Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa and the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).
The Epidemiologic operations unit is responsible for monitoring patients infected with and people who have been exposed to generally hazardous diseases, as obligated by the Communicable Diseases Act. The Epidemiologic operations unit makes suspension proposals to the Social Services and Health Care Committee as well as executive assistance requests.
The Epidemiologic operations unit collaborates with the City of Helsinki Environment Centre in the food poisoning epidemic investigation working group and is, for its part, responsible for monitoring and treating food poisoning and water-based epidemics.
