First driving licence

After you have been granted a permit, you can book a time for taking a driving examination. The permit must be valid when you take the driving examination tests.

You can apply for the first driving licence using Traficom's e-Services if you have no previous driving licence in Finland or abroad and you meet the criteria for using the service.

2.Payment

Pay for your order (24 e). After you have paid, you must book a date and time for taking the driving examination tests with Traficom's service provider, Ajovarma. The permit must be valid at this time. A separate fee is charged for taking the tests

3. Completing a driving examination, posting of the licence

The driving licence will arrive at your home address within four working days of passing the driving examination.

Information on all service channels is not available in your chosen language. Change the language of the site to receive information on service channels in other languages.

To whom and on what terms

You have not been previously granted a driving licence in Finland or abroad

You are not under an obligation to use an alcohol interlock when driving

You are not banned from driving

For the purpose of applying for a driving licence, your photograph and up-to-date signature are available in electronic format in a register kept by the authorities. You will see the available photograph and signature after you have logged into the service. Your facial photograph and signature will be available in the service if you have a valid passport or personal identity card

By using this e-service, you are giving your permission for Traficom's to use on your driving licence the image and signature contained in Traficom's image register or in the police passport photo register.

Your permanent address is in mainland Finland.

Driving licences will be sent to the customer's official address in mainland Finland, as stated in the population information system. If your address details are incorrect, please update them before paying for the service, using the Notification of change of address service of Post and the Local Register Office at www.posti.fi/changeaddress

You can log into the service using online bank identifiers or mobile recognition.
