To whom and on what terms

A prerequisite for obtaining a responsible person qualification (L = heat or S = electricity) is professional experience in the sector and at least three years of basic education in energy technology (electrical, HVAC or other energy technology, e.g. process or power plant technology) or an employer's certificate of similar information acquired with work experience. In addition, approved exam completion is required.

Applicants for the qualification of responsible persons must also take the following into account:

  • In the audit of heat and HVAC technology (L), the auditor must, based on their training and experience, manage, among other things, the analysis of heat losses in HVAC and process technology systems by means of measurements and computational methods to produce an energy balance for buildings or processes. In addition, the auditor shall master general methods and techniques for improving the efficiency of energy use, be able to calculate the energy consumption and cost impacts of savings measures at the site under review, and have the capacity to carry out HVAC measurements of properties and processes.
  • A successful audit of electrical energy technology and saving possibilities (S) requires familiarity with electricity tariffs, electrical cost components, typical electric real estate equipment and typical saving possibilities for utilities, lighting, lighting control solutions, kitchen appliances and processes, such as motor drives. In addition, competence in calculating the need, costs and use of electrical energy by equipment and space is required as well as capabilities for conducting electrical load measurements at practical audit sites.

In field work, auditors encounter energy technology equipment and solutions commonly used in old installations, so successful auditor performance requires experience and knowledge of previously used energy technologies and installation solutions.
