Daycare centre and playground clubs
- Public service
The club activities are intended for children in Helsinki from the age of 2 to the beginning of free-of-charge preschool, who are in home care. The club is for a maximum of 13 children and it is supervised by a playground or daycare centre worker.
The activities are available on 1–4 days a week, 2.5–3 hours at a time.
The clubs are held at daycare centres or on playgrounds. Many of the clubs are focused on exercise and outdoor activities, or arts and crafts. In the clubs, the child will learn matters in a small group through play, exercise, exploration and arts and crafts and practice their social skills. The objective is to support the growth and development of the children. During the club, the children will eat a small snack brought from home.
The club season starts when the school starts or, at the latest, by 1 September and ends on 31 May. The clubs follow school holidays. At the beginning of the season, the child’s monthly club hours will be agreed upon with the family.
Municipal club activities of children are free of charge to families until further notice, and the participation does not have an effect on the municipal child home care allowance. The child cannot take part in the municipal club activities, if the family receives private child home care allowance.
The purpose of municipal playgrounds is to offer safe, diverse and welcoming environments for play. The municipality checks the safety of playgrounds several times a year. The maintenance measures are carried out according to a national specification.
Playgrounds may be supervised by municipal employees either continuously or at certain times, or they may be unsupervised. A municipality may organise instructor-led activities for pre-school and school-age children at the playground.
