Compensations for owners of fishing waters
- Nationwide except the Åland Islands
- Public service
The fisheries authorities of the ELY Centres grant each year compensations to owners of fishing waters for use based on the utilisation of chargeable common fishing rights and fishing guide activities. Compensations are paid from the funds accrued from the fishing management fees paid by fishermen.
The division of funds from compensations is based on the strain imposed on the water area by lure fishing. ELY Centres grant funds from compensations, without an application, to fishing areas that further distribute the funds to owners of fishing waters in their own area without a separate application. The compensations do not constitute subsidies and the owners of water areas do not have to provide an account of their use to the ELY Centre.
Funds from compensations referred to in section 82 of the Fishing Act are distributed to current fishing areas referred to in the previous act until the fisheries regions referred to in the Act which entered into force on 1 January 2016 become operational.
Funds from compensations are distributed usually in the spring.
