Child Welfare Services family work

Family work is intended for children and young people under 18 years of age and their parents. Child welfare social work in community care and the social workers of the service needs evaluation and support for families with children unit will guide their clients to receive the appropriate services.
During an initial discussion between a family and a social worker, the goals of the work ahead are agreed upon. The content of family work will be tailored to suit the specific needs of each family. The work may entail talking therapy and support with everyday chores, advice, guidance and shared activities with others. The service can also be arranged in the form of group work. Progress is assessed with regular evaluations.
Family work is primarily conducted at the family’s home or in another environment they commonly use during weekdays or at weekends. The work is based on openness, transparency and collaborative negotiation. The aim is to identify means for a parent to be a sufficiently adequate parent to their child. The work also aims to strengthen and support a child’s or a young person’s own active participation. The family’s existing networks will be utilised. The regional family work units are in charge of conducting family work.
The service is free of charge for the clients.

A social worker will evaluate the need for family work and apply for the service. The service is intended for residents of Helsinki.
