Authorisation to provide family mediation

A family mediator renders assistance and support, upon request, when disputes arise in a family. Family mediation is aimed at families with children, when the parents are considering divorce or are already divorced and the family is trying to adjust to the new situation.

Do the following

Submit an application to the Regional State Administrative Agency in whose area the service is rendered. Attach to your application a statement from the wellbeing services county where the service is rendered, as well as the other documents mentioned in the application form.

Community as the service provider

Attach to the application a description of the professional requirements set for the mediators by the community, the qualification certificates of the person in charge, and a list of personnel indicating the educational information of the mediators.

Private person as the service provider

Attach to the application the qualification certificates of the person rendering the service and a description of the person’s competence and familiarity with child welfare or family guidance work or with family law.

The Regional State Administrative Agency will check the application form and the attachments and make a decision on the registration. The Agency will send the decision to the wellbeing services county that provided the statement. If you are unhappy with the decision, you have the right to appeal it.

Family mediation services may be rendered by a party with adequate competence in the matter.


Deadline

You must apply for the authorisation approximately 2 - 3 months before the start of operations. An extension to the authorisation must be applied for approximately 2 - 3 months before the previous authorisation period runs out.

Processing time

Approximately 2–3 months.

Period of validity

The authorisation is valid for five years, after which you must apply for it again if you wish to continue rendering the services.
