Authorisation to provide family mediation

  • Permit or other obligation
  • Nationwide except the Åland Islands
  • Public service

The Regional State Administrative Agency grants the authorisation for providing family mediation services.

Family mediation services may be rendered by a party with adequate competence in the matter.

A family mediator renders assistance and support, upon request, when disputes arise in a family. Family mediation is aimed at families with children, when the parents are considering divorce or are already divorced and the family is trying to adjust to the new situation.

Do the following

Submit an application to the Regional State Administrative Agency in whose area the service is rendered. Attach to your application a statement from the social welfare authority in the municipality where the service is rendered, as well as the other documents mentioned in the application form.

  • Community as the service provider

Attach to the application a description of the professional requirements set for the mediators by the community, the qualification certificates of the person in charge, and a list of personnel indicating the educational information of the mediators.

  • Private person as the service provider

Attach to the application the qualification certificates of the person rendering the service and a description of the person’s competence and familiarity with child welfare or family guidance work or with family law.

The Regional State Administrative Agency will check the application form and the attachments and make a decision on the registration. The Agency will send the decision to the service provider and to the municipality that provided the statement. If you are unhappy with the decision, you have the right to appeal it.

To whom and on what terms
