Advice and guidance in immigration and integration matters

  • Service
  • Nationwide except the Åland Islands
  • Public service

The ELY Centres provide municipalities and different partners with advice and guidance in matters related to immigration, integration and reception of refugees.

The promotion of integration requires close cooperation between the different administrative branches and levels, as well as smooth regional cooperation between the different immigration operators. Advice and guidance support the development of good demographic relationships, as well as the promotion of ethnic equality and non-discrimination.

Under the Act on the Promotion of Immigrant Integration, municipalities are tasked with the development, planning and monitoring of immigrant integration at the local level. In addition, each municipality shall ensure that the municipal services it offers also suit the needs of the local residents with immigrant or refugee background.

The purpose of integration is to support the social inclusion of immigrants, so that the immigrants are provided with basic information about the Finnish society, working life and services aimed at promoting integration.
