Measurement methods for occupational radiation exposure

In accordance with section 12 of the Radiation Decree, the measurement methods used to determine occupational radiation exposure must be approved for this purpose by the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority. Dose measurement service providers that provide measurement services to monitor individual employees’ dose must apply for separate approval from the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority for both the dose measurement service itself and the measurement methods used for individual monitoring.

Do the following

You must apply for approval of both the dose measurement service and the measurement methods used for individual monitoring from the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority. The aforementioned approval must be applied for in writing by submitting a free-form application to the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority. The application must demonstrate that the requirements of guidelines ST 1.9 are met on the basis of type examination data, test data and other reliable data showing the characteristics of the metre, for example. The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority approves other radiation meters when granting a safety permit for their intended use or when inspecting operations.

To whom and on what terms

The approval requires accreditation of the measuring service and an inspection by the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority. Based on documentation and, if necessary, tests, the inspection will determine whether the dose measurement service meets the requirements set out in guidelines ST 1.9.

A fee is charged for the service.
