Reporting and changing personal data in the Suomi.fi service yourself

If you wish to become a member of a religious community, submit a notification directly to the religious community.

If you wish to resign from a religious community, you can submit your resignation request through your Personal data page. Your resignation will be immediately registered in the Population Information System.

The possibility to block a notification of change of address is intended for those whose information has been used for a false address change notification or who fear that their personal data could be used for making a false address change notification. These cases usually involve the loss or theft of a proof of identity. Often, a report of an offence has already been filed.  

If you have blocked the notification of change of address, your notification will not be processed until you remove the block.

You can block a notification of change of address to the Population Information System on your Personal data page. Remember to also ask Posti for address change protection. This ensures that your data cannot be used to submit a notification of change of address even via Posti. 

Additional information about blocking a notification of move

If you have a non-disclosure order, you can remove it yourself. The validity of your non-disclosure will end immediately. The information is transmitted from the Population Information System to other registers with a delay. Information on your terminated non-disclosure for personal safety reasons can be found under the Previous information section.

You cannot personally reinstate a non-disclosure for personal safety reasons. If you require a non-disclosure for personal safety reasons again, apply for a non-disclosure order from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (in Finnish).

If your minor child has a non-disclosure order, all guardians must jointly apply to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency for the removal of the non-disclosure order (in Finnish).

The data is entered in the Population Information System immediately. However, the data that you send between 23:00 and 01:00 is processed from 01:00 onwards. Your personal data will be updated in other authorities’ systems within a week.

You can change one personal detail once in 24 hours. You will be notified if you try to change your personal data too soon after the previous edit.

You can enter your preferred forename, e-mail address, profession, language of service and mother tongue. In addition, you can add or remove non-disclosures. You must identify yourself, so you will need internet banking codes or other means of electronic identification.

However, you cannot resign the church, prevent the notification of move with your information or remove your non-disclosure order on the Suomi.fi Personal Data page.

If you wish to change your first or last name, you must apply for a name change from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.
