Incorrect or missing personal data

In some of the information fields, the start or end data is displayed as an incomplete or artificial date (for example 00.06.1966, 01.01.0001, 10101, 19710000). The incomplete or artificial date does not affect the validity of the information.

Register information was transferred to the centralised Population Information System from other data sources, such as parish registers and the civil register, at the beginning of the 1970s. Not all of the old paper documents had a date marked on them. In these cases, it is possible that only the year, or the year and the month could be transferred to the Population Information System.

Incorrect dates

If your data contains incorrect dates, a document certified by the original authority is required to correct date information. For example, the wedding date can be corrected if you still have the original marriage certificate, from which the date can be determined.

It is not possible to correct all date information afterwards. For example, this may be the case for a date of death obtained from abroad. It may only have been reported with the accuracy of the month.

Name change

If you wish to change your first or last name and the change is not related to an error during the registration of the data, submit a name change application to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. Due to data protection, you can only see your parents’ or children’s date of birth and possible date of death if the guardianship has ended. In general, guardianship lasts until your child reaches the age of majority. Therefore, the missing data is not a mistake.

If your guardianship came to an end before 1 October 1973, you will not necessarily be able to see your child’s or parent’s data at all. Information from prior to this have not been transferred to the electronic Population Information System. Old data will no longer be completed.

If there are other shortcomings in the guardianship information and an agreement or decision has been made on the child's custody, we recommend that you are primarily in touch with the authority who has processed the child's custody matter. The authority in question reports the child's guardianship information to the Population Information System. Child welfare officers and courts of law are obliged to notify the Population Information System of any changes in the child’s guardianship information.

The right of access to information should be displayed on the Personal Data page if

• the court of law or a child welfare officer has granted you the right of access to information
• you are not the child's guardian.

The decision-making right should be displayed on the Personal Data page if

• the court of law or a child welfare officer has made a decision on your rights as a guardian
• you are the child's guardian.

If the details on the Personal Data page are incomplete or incorrect, please, contact primarily the authority that made the decision or confirmed the contract. Please, request that they report the changed data to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. If you have any questions about the court or child welfare officer's decision, please, also contact the authority that made the decision. Information regarding any addresses will not be supplemented or corrected afterwards. Personal data entered in the Population Information System is stored permanently. This means that it is not possible to delete previous address data from the Population Information System.

If your property information does not show on the personal data page, you can check your building information in the property information of the National Land Survey.

If your building information is incomplete or needs to be rectified, contact the building supervision in the municipality in which the building is located. The municipal authorities update the owner data of the buildings and the data are transferred to the Population Information System.
