Assignment of business

An assignment of business is a situation in which a business or part of a business is sold to another enterprise, or in which a public sector entity such as a government agency or part thereof is converted into a company. The situation of employees does not change as such on an assignment of business, and the rights and duties of the employer merely pass to the new owner.

The new owner may not dismiss employees merely because of the assignment of business. Employees have a special right to resign when business operations are assigned, and may terminate their employment with effect from the date of assignment, subject to certain conditions.
