Forms of rehabilitation and providers of rehabilitation services
If you are self-employed now, or were self-employed before your sick leave, your rehabilitation is mainly provided by your pension insurance company together with Kela. If you are not working and you have no right to rehabilitation supported by a pension insurance company, Kela will look after your rehabilitation. If you have had an accident at work, an occupational illness or a road accident, accident and motor insurance companies look after your rehabilitation.
Many different organisations provide rehabilitation. Access to rehabilitation requires a rehabilitation plan drawn up in public healthcare.
Kela organises intensive medical rehabilitation, vocational rehabilitation and discretionary rehabilitation.
Employment pension insurance companies and insurance providers also provide vocational rehabilitation,
as do the wellbeing services counties. Healthcare is responsible for medical rehabilitation and social welfare for social rehabilitation and rehabilitative work activities.
Educational rehabilitation is mainly the responsibility of municipalities and special education institutions, as well as various associations.
