Food monitoring

The safety and freshness of foods is controlled by monitoring their preparation and distribution.

  •  If you bought a defective product, give feedback directly to the store where you bought it or to the manufacturer.
  • If you fall ill after eating at a restaurant or notice signs of poor hygiene or inadequate labelling of products in a shop, restaurant or any place that sells food, contact your  home municipality's or wellbeing services county's food control inspector or health inspector.

It is the task of the municipality or wellbeing services county to monitor the safety of raw materials, and the preparation and distribution of foods. The inspectors carry out inspections of premises where food is processed, standards of hygiene and labelling, and deal with any failings in these areas.

Food monitoring in Finland is the responsibility of the Finnish Food Authority.
