The State's business activities
In Finland, state business activities have a long history. The Finnish State has established and acquired public-limited companies since the early days of independence. Another trend has been to develop State institutions functioning on the markets into a more corporate form. Following the rapid development that took place in the 1990s, these two trends have been fused in the model for State enterprises.
In the early 1990s, the Finnish Railways, Post and Telecommunications and several other state institutions became unincorporated state enterprises.
Duties relating to state ownership steering are handled in the Ownership Steering Department in the Prime Minister’s Office.
