Unemployment or disability pension

A disability pension may be paid if an occupational disability caused by an illness cannot be cured by means of rehabilitation. Employees who have been in gainful employment and the self-employed between the ages of 18 and 63 are entitled to receive an earnings-related pension if they fall sick. Inability to work must be supported by a doctor’s certificate regarding the applicant’s state of health. If the earnings-related pension is small, a national pension may be received in addition to it.

An older person who has been unemployed for the long term and who was born before 1950 may receive an unemployment pension. The pension is based on gainful employment and accrues from periods of employment or self-employment. The national pension also supplements an unemployment pension.
