Licences

A driving licence is required to drive a motor vehicle. Driving licences are obtained from the police, but the applicant must first pass a driving test. A health certificate is also required for a driving licence. Doctors are obliged to inform the police if the health of someone who applies for or already holds a driving licence does not meet the legal requirements.

Driving licences are divided into different categories according to the vehicles the holder is allowed to drive. The most common licence categories are M, A, B and C. A moped can be driven on an M licence, a motorcycle on an A licence, and a car or van with or without a trailer on a B licence. A C licence entitles the holder to drive a heavy van or lorry.
