Vehicles and driving permits

A driving licence is normally required to drive a motor vehicle. Motor vehicles also have to be registered and inspected. Finnish Transport Safety Agency Trafi is in charge of the registration and inspection of vehicles, and permits and driving tests.

A pilot’s licence is required for flying; these are issued by Transport Safety Agency. Aircraft must be registered and inspected. The airworthiness, equipment and maintenance of aircrafts are all monitored by regular inspections.

No licence is required for boating. However, some boats have to be registered and inspected. The owner of a boat that has to be registered must notify the local register office before the boat is used. Boats are inspected by Transport Safety Agency.
