Driving and boating instruction

Finnish Transport Safety Agency Trafi is in charge of driving tests, but the tests are held by private companies specialising in them. Privately owned driving schools give instruction for the driving test covering theory and practical driving instruction. A driving school requires a permit from Trafi.

The police are empowered to grant instruction permits to private individuals living within their jurisdiction. Such a permit entitles the holder to give instruction only to the individual named in the permit. No instruction is insisted on for boating, but if desired, it can be obtained from boating organisations and various civic institutes.
