Scientific research in Finland

Scientific research in Finland is centered in universities and state-funded specialised research institutions. The task of universities is to promote free scientific research. Universities and research institutes endeavour to attain a high international level of scientific achievement.

Science in Finland is funded by both the public and the private sector. The Academy of Finland and TEKES (the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation) provide significant funding for research in Finland. Research is also funded by various foundations.

The EU also funds research within Member States. Scientific associations promote research within their own fields and provide information on research projects in the scientific journals they publish.
