Upper secondary schools
Upper secondary schools provide general education in preparation for further education. Students apply for upper secondary schools through the electronic secondary-level joint application system. Students must have completed the required courses in basic education before they can apply. Upper secondary education is non-graded and course-based so that students are responsible for their own progress and studies. Upper secondary education can be completed in 2-4 years. The matriculation examination is taken at the end of upper secondary school. Upper secondary school education is also provided at upper secondary schools for adults or in the form of distance learning.
