Studying abroad
Studies can be done abroad at various stages of education and for varying lengths of time. It is possible to be an exchange student during upper secondary education, and to be an international exchange student, either independently or through an exchange programme whilst at university.
It is also possible to undertake continuing education studies or study for an entire degree abroad. Educational qualifications from an EU country will, on the whole, be valid in the other EU countries. University degrees that have been awarded by universities abroad are on the whole comparable to university degrees obtained in Finland.
The National Board of Education is responsible for deciding whether a foreign degree is valid for public service posts while sector-specific authorities issue licences to practice.
The Finnish Centre for International Mobility (CIMO) gives advice on opportunities for internationalisation. Its guidance services can be contacted for information on study, traineeships and other internationalisation options.
