Attending school and studying abroad

The education of children of Finnish families living abroad can be arranged in many different ways. Finnish children living abroad can attend a Finnish school, be taught at home by a Finnish teacher or attend the local school.

It is possible to study abroad through a school exchange programme. Part of the qualification is usually completed at an educational institution taking part in the programme. Studies completed abroad are recognised at Finnish educational institutions.

Qualifications can also be completed entirely abroad. International agreements state how the qualifications correspond, and it is a good idea to look into this before travelling abroad.
