Sports and outdoor activities

It is the responsibility of the local authorities and the state to make facilities available for sport. The local authorities own the majority of sports venues. Sports clubs arrange outdoor exercise and sporting events. In Finland, it is possible to go travelling or hiking in the countryside by virtue of the right to roam. Angling and ice fishing are not restricted, but a permit is required for other types of fishing. Landowners who are qualified to hunt and those that have the right to hunt may do so during the Finnish hunting seasons.
