Preparedness against crises

Finland has an action plan to guarantee social functioning that is vital for society as a whole in the event of atypical and serious crisis situations. The protection and evacuation of the population play a key role in this. Responsibility for planning the protection of the population lies with the Ministry of the Interior’s Department for Rescue Services.

Air-raid shelters are meant to protect people from, for example, explosion, gas, radiation and fire. Normally, there are no air-raid shelters in rural areas or areas with a lot of detached houses (suburbs, etc.). The Household Safety Guide (Kodin turvaopas) is an online service provided by the Ministry of the Interior and the Finnish National Rescue Association which has information on crisis situations, common everyday accidents and accidents associated with sport and leisure.
