State of the environment and people's health

Environmental factors affect people’s health. Some environmental factors, such as solar radiation, are natural. Others, such as the environmental impacts of traffic, are man-made. The poor quality of indoor and outdoor air shows up as a susceptibility to bronchial disorders.

Besides the authorities, the state of the environment is also monitored by research institutes, universities and environmental organisations. Air quality is monitored by the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) and the Finnish Meteorological Institute.

The idea of environmental health care is to ensure there are no health hazards in the living environment.
